Who We Are

About

CFI BoD is the structure designed to administer the various guilds and systems under the Cameroon Film industry and show business ecosystem.

Created in 2008, the Cameroon Film Industry (CFI) organization is a professional and apolitical association that seeks to bring together all stakeholders of filmmaking in Cameroon irrespective of language, ethnicity or religious denomination with the objective of promoting professionalism among filmmakers, scouting for more partners and sponsors, working with the Cameroon government to improve on cultural policy for the arts, opening up more marketing and distribution channels as well as regulating film activities in the country.
It is made up of six professional guilds and Film Communities in different towns or Cities across the country.

The different guilds are;
– The producers’ guild,
– The directors’ guild,
– The actors’ guild,
– The technicians’ guild,
– The writers’ guilds and
– The marketers’/ Distributors guild.
These six guilds represent the major disciplines into which major stakeholders of filmmaking are categorized in the CFI. Each of the six guilds of the CFI has a national president as well as branch presidents in major towns of the country. Some of the guilds also have branches in the Diaspora in countries with impressive numbers of Cameroonian filmmakers.

The Film Communities are small groupings of Film stakeholders in different towns or Cities with main aim of socializing amongst themselves. It’s been managed by a local coordination team headed by a  local coordinator through the supervision of the Board of Directors.

Mission

The mission of this organization is to:
  • Promote professionalism among filmmakers and film stakeholders in Cameroon, through festivals and awards.
  • Scout for more partners and sponsors for the film sector,
  • Open up more marketing and distribution channels for the film industry in Cameroon.
  • Collaborate with the competent authorities to regulate the film sector in Cameroon.
  • Lobby for a cultural policy in Cameroon that creates an enabling environment for the film sector to blossom
  • Initiate training as well as refresher programs for filmmakers and enthusiasts.
Vision

CFI believes that the film sector has the potential to contribute in very remarkable ways to the short- and long-term development goals of Cameroon and should be woven into the country’s vision 2035 agenda. The film sector works as a production chain, from knowledge acquisition, funding, production, distribution and exploitation. In Cameroon, the funding and distribution phases are particularly deficient, weakening the whole chain. Also, the government regulatory agencies on film activities are very unclear and ineffective. CFI intends to keep working with the statutory authorities in place to fill these structural gaps in order to create a politico-legal environment that enables the film sector to contribute adequately to employment and economic development as is the case in countries like Nigeria and the US. This idealized situation will also improve on, and sell the image of Cameroon globally.
